Michigan names ex-Wolverine Howard coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) Juwan Howard is coming back to Michigan.

The former member of the Fab Five agreed to a five-year deal, which will pay him $2 million in his first year, on Wednesday to lead the Wolverines.

"As a `Michigan Man' I know the place our program has in college basketball and I embrace the chance to build onto that history and lead us to championships both in the Big Ten and national level," Howard said. "We will continue to develop young men on the court, in the classroom and in the community that our fan base will continue to be proud of."


Cal's Sueing transfers to Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio State basketball program is adding California's leading scorer Justice Sueing to the team.

The 6-foot-7 forward from Honolulu, Hawaii, will have to sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules. Ohio State said Wednesday he'll have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2020-21.


Irish's Brey: Transfers need 'deterrent'

WASHINGTON (AP) Notre Dame coach Mike Brey says the NCAA is granting too many waivers that allow players who transfer to compete immediately, calling the requirement that players sit out a year a useful "deterrent" to players switching schools.

Brey made his comments Wednesday at a meeting of the Knight Commission, a nonprofit that pushes for reform in college sports. While the commission has not taken a position on transfer waivers, it often advocates for players being given more freedom to pursue their professional ambitions.


Pastner accusers facing more charges

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) An Arizona couple is facing more criminal charges for allegedly trying to implicate Georgia Tech basketball coach Josh Pastner in a sexual assault, according to court records.

Prosecutors in Oro Valley, where Ron Bell lives, brought additional charges against him Friday, the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson reported. Bell is now facing one count each of providing false information to law enforcement and facilitation of a fraud scheme practice.


Iowa adds Taylor to McCaffery's staff

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) Iowa has hired former Lehigh and Ball State head coach Billy Taylor to be an assistant on Fran McCaffery's staff.

Taylor, who spent three years as the director of basketball operations in Iowa City from 2014-16, will replace Andrew Francis, now with California.


Iowa's Bohannon could miss senior season

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) Iowa point guard Jordan Bohannon is out indefinitely with a hip injury that could put his senior season in jeopardy.

Bohannon, who suffered the previously undisclosed injury early in 2018-19, will undergo surgery Wednesday, the team said. Bohannon ranked third on the team with 11.6 points per game last season and led the Big Ten in free throw shooting percentage.


Syracuse F Brissett to remain in draft

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Syracuse forward Oshae Brissett has decided to keep his name in the NBA draft and won't return for his junior year.

Brissett made the announcement Tuesday night on Twitter . He said he decided to leave school after getting feedback from NBA teams and speaking with family and friends.


Michigan's Brazdeikis staying in draft

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) Michigan's Iggy Brazdeikis is staying in the NBA draft.

The basketball program announced his decision Tuesday. The school announced last month that Brazdeikis, Charles Matthews and Jordan Poole were declaring for the draft. All three could have changed their minds and come back, but instead, they've all said they would indeed leave school.


Clemson F Baehre tears knee ligament

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) Clemson forward Jonathan Baehre is out indefinitely after tearing a knee ligament.

The school says the injury occurred during practice Monday. There is no timetable for his return.


Alabama signs JUCO All-American F Rojas

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) Junior college forward James Rojas has signed to play with Alabama.

Rojas, whose signing was announced on Tuesday, is the Crimson Tide's sixth signee and second transfer who will be eligible for coach Nate Oats' first season.
